Often referred to as 'The Cradle of Mankind', Olduvai Gorge is home to the most continuous record of human evolution and the first place where early stone tools were found.

Locally the gorge is actually known as 'Oldupai' Gorge, a Maasai word for sisal plants growing in the area. However, a misspelling of the word has persisted and it is better known globally as Olduvai Gorge. The gorge measures 48km long and 90 metres deep and is a UNESCO world heritage site.

During your safari in Serengeti National Park, take a detour to this historic site and tour the museum. The museum is full of fascinating facts about the ancient human fossil remains found there.
